Import/export helps users move data in or out, export reports, and restore one activity from a JSON backup.
Best for: users moving ExpenseKit data in or out, exporting reports, or restoring an activity backup file.
Import And Export Data
Move data into or out of ExpenseKit with supported imports, exports, reports, and activity backup files.
- Open import/export screen.
- For export, choose export format and time period.
- Export all-time or selected year.
- Share or open exported file.
- For import, choose CSV, Excel, or JSON activity backup.
- Select file.
- Review import result.
Note: CSV and Excel imports skip detected duplicates. JSON activity restore validates file and reuses matching transactions when possible.
Activity Backup Restore
Restore a single activity from a JSON backup without rebuilding the activity manually.
- Tap Restore Activity Backup.
- Select JSON backup file.
- Confirm restore.
Outcome: Activity restored. Matching transactions reused when possible.
Expense Analysis
Use analysis charts and reports to understand spending by period, category, cash flow, and trends.
- Open analysis tab.
- Select month/year period.
- Review charts, summary, category distribution, cash flow, and insights.
- Change chart view type if available.
- Tap fullscreen for bigger chart.
- Tap share/export to export image, PDF, CSV, or print report.
Note: Some widgets or insights may require ExpenseKit+.
Common questions
Can ExpenseKit import CSV or Excel files?
ExpenseKit supports CSV import, and Excel import is available where supported by the app. Imports add records and skip detected duplicates when possible.
Can I export an activity report?
Yes. Open the activity, tap the export icon, choose an export option, and complete the export flow.
